New textbook released

April 4 marked the release of a new textbook entitled Serving Military Families in the 21st Century.
The 314-page book, available in hardcover and paperback from Routledge Academic, introduces readers to both the challenges faced, and the resilience shown, by military families. It includes personal stories from all branches and ranks of the military and those who work with military personnel, bringing their experiences to life. It also presents a review of the latest research, theories, policies, and programs to better prepare readers for working with military families.

Karen Rose Blaisure led a talented team of authors who worked tirelessly to create this valuable study to guide those who will be in a position to help military families long into the future. Other authors were Tara Saathoff-Wells, Angela Pereira, Amy Laura Dombro and Shelley MacDermid Wadsworth, director of the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University.

MacDermid Wadsworth and the other authors are very grateful to the many people who made important contributions to the project, including Debra Riegert at Routledge and all the military families, researchers and others who agreed to be interviewed. And special thanks to  MFRI staffer and Outreach Specialist Sandra Dye, a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve, for the use of her boots which – a few short weeks after starring in our outstanding cover photo – were again “on the ground” in service to our country as Dye was deployed.
