MFRI's Operation Diploma focuses on changing the landscape of higher education

More than 100 administrators, academic advisors and staff from post-secondary institutions across the nation are slated to attend Leading Transformation: Changing the Landscape of Higher Education. The event, scheduled for Nov. 1 at Purdue University’s Stewart Center, is the third annual meeting of Operation Diploma, the Military Family Research Institute’s post-secondary education initiative.

Leading Transformation is a daylong event that aims to address emerging evidence and trends that have proven successful in helping student service members and veterans transition into, and succeed in, post-secondary education.

Keith Wilson, who is director of education service at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will give the keynote address, and more than a dozen presentations will be offered during three concurrent breakout sessions. The sessions will focus on sharing evidence of promising practices and demonstrated successes; expanding initiatives beyond campus and state borders; exploring future directions; and enhancing attendees’ tool kits for providing comprehensive support.

Operation Diploma engages and educates post-secondary education stakeholders on the issues surrounding student service members and veterans. Through this initiative, MFRI has since 2008 awarded nearly $2.4 million to colleges, universities, SVOs and others. Nearly $50,000 has been awarded directly to student veterans’ organizations.
