On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day "as a public expression of love and reverence for the mothers of our country."
Mothers who are members of the military community in the United States are among the most dedicated men and women in this country. While their service member spouses are away, military moms juggle all of the daily chores and challenges that every family faces with the added pressure of doing it alone. And while all mothers should be honored every Mother's Day for their love, commitment, and support, military moms deserve special gratitude and acknowledgement. Moms who serve often endure separation from families on holidays, birthdays and other special occasions.
This weekend, the Military Family Research Institute would like to take this time to thank all of the military moms who are making daily sacrifices for their families—and their country. We salute you!
