While resilient, military members, veterans and their families may be at an increased risk for mental health challenges, some of which may be deployment-related. Now behavioral health specialists have a vital resource for identifying and addressing those issues.
How to Help Military and Veteran Families for Mental Health Professionals offers practical advice for building trusting relationships with patients who have ties to the armed services. Part of the How to Help Military and Veteran Families series produced by the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University in collaboration with its partners, the publication aims to educate mental health practitioners about:
- military culture;
- establishing methods to determine a patient’s military affiliation;
- establishing a rapport with military patients;
- understanding the military culture and language; and
- treating children from military families.
