Hanley Hall: Dedicated to families

More than 125 people attended the dedication of the Bill and Sally Hanley Hall, the newly-constructed building that is home to the Military Family Research Institute, offices, child classroom laboratories, conference rooms and other interdisciplinary research centers.

“Hanley Hall is Purdue’s new home for discovery and learning related to the study of families, children and human wwwelopment, and we are thankful for all of the support, especially from Sally and Bill Hanley and the Lilly Endowment, that made this building possible,” said Purdue President France A. C?rdova during remarks at the dedication. “Within these walls, pioneering research will foster breakthroughs in knowledge in areas related to children, youth, families and adults.”

Located at the corner of Jischke Drive and State Street and connected by a sky bridge to Fowler House, the 32,600-square-foot building was made possible by a $3 million gift from Purdue alumni Bill and Sally Hanley. A significant gift from Lilly Endowment Inc. created a permanent space for MFRI, and individual private gifts supported named spaces within.

Together, Hanley Hall and Fowler House comprise the Human wwwelopment Institute (HDI), which integrates human wwwelopment efforts across campus into contiguous space and provides an unprecedented opportunity to address the critical issues facing youth and families. In addition to MFRI, HDI houses the Department of Human wwwelopment and Families Studies, the Center for Families and Center on Aging and the Life Course.
