Career-building opportunities for student service members, veterans

Working with universities across Indiana, MFRI is co-sponsoring a variety of events where student service members and veterans can network with employers, improve their job search skills and seek out meaningful employment opportunities.

On Feb. 24, Ivy Tech Community College – Northeast (Fort Wayne) is presenting a Job Skills Workshop. This free event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the campus’ Student Life Center. For more information, contact Sheila Biggs, director of career services at Ivy Tech Northeast: (260) 480-4223.

On April 4, Ball State University and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) are jointly hosting a Career Prep Workshop for Veterans. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 38th Infantry Division National Guard Armory in Indianapolis. This free event will provide participants the opportunity to improve their resume, search and apply for jobs online, research companies and careers, network with employers, and prepare for interviews. Breakfast and lunch will be included, and while walk-ins are welcome, participation is limited to 120. Register to guarantee a spot.

Employers, as well as student service members and veterans, are also encouraged to attend Operation: Hire a Hoosier Vet Job Fair, which takes place April 18 at Stout Field, Building 9 in Indianapolis. This free career fair allows employers the opportunity to discover the wealth of resources from our Indiana veterans, and provides job seekers access to employers who value the contributions that veterans make to their organizations.  For more information, contact VA representatives Jami Stout, Amy Cannon or Doshia Fifer.
