Advisory Council gathers for meeting

Members of the Advisory Council for the Military Family Research Institute (MFRI) gathered Thursday to learn about the state of MFRI, as well as to assist in strategic planning and help guide the organization for the coming year.

“I am proud of my involvement with MFRI because I know it has a tremendous positive influence on the well-being of military families,” one member wrote on the post-meeting evaluation.

The advisory council is comprised of leaders with high-level expertise in military and family matters.  Members provide guidance and insight into how MFRI senior staff might think about issues, trends and future research needs. The council includes members of active-duty, reserve and retired military and their spouses, as well as civilians, all of whom have extensive experience and knowledge to share with MFRI. Their areas of expertise include:

  • military leadership and policy;
  • mental and physical health issues;
  • child and family wwwelopment;
  • corporate leadership;
  • student service members and veterans transitioning to post-secondary institutions; and
  • research in the field of military family studies.

“We have an exemplary council, whose members are willing to dedicate their time and energy to military members not just through their association with MFRI, but through their daily life and work,” said Shelley MacDermid Wadsworth, director of MFRI. “We are grateful for their many contributions to our efforts and look forward to working with them during the coming year.”
