Family Journeys: Deployment Through Reintegration

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of this project?

To better understand the experience of National Guard families throughout deployment. We’ll ask about your family’s experiences prior to deployment, during deployment, and following return home from deployment.

Who qualifies for the study?

Families with Indiana National Guard members who are about to deploy.

What is involved if we agree to participate?

You and your family will be asked to complete surveys and personal interviews about every five months throughout the cycle of deployment, including the return home.

What are the surveys and interviews about?

The surveys and interviews will ask questions about the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors you and your family experience during the deployment cycle.

Where will we complete the surveys and interviews?

We do our best to make participation convenient for your family. The surveys will be available to you online. Paper copies of the survey will also be mailed to you with a postage-paid return envelope. We will come to your home for the interviews, unless another location is more convenient for you.

What do we get out of it?

We find that many families enjoy relating their experiences. But to thank you for your time and effort, we will pay $30 to each person in your family for each survey and interview completed.

How do we get started?

If you have interest in participating or would simply like more information, contact Dave Topp, Director of Research, at 765-496-3449 . You can also e-mail familyjourneys@purdue.edu.
