Resources for Families

Changes in family structure and responsibilities are difficult for many families, but they can be especially challenging for military families because of the frequency with which these transitions occur. Deployment and separation, changes in childcare, relocation and the PCS experience, and transitions between civilian and military employment status are all life events which can increase the impact of stressors on military families.

Support systems play a vital role in helping families cope with the unique needs that surface throughout the military deployment cycle. These support systems are available in many shapes, sizes and formats. From resources available through military-sponsored programs to local community services, and from national volunteer organizations to friends and family members, it is important that military families establish a support structure to help provide assistance and encouragement during times of need. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for support networks – what works for one family, may not be the right choice for another. MFRI’s goal is to provide a handful of suggested resources to help military families.
